Are you a courageous leader?

Not necessarily in corporate life, there are leaders in all facets of life and all of us have been leaders in some form or the other. I have rubbed shoulders with so many who neither use social media, nor seek recognition, fame or money yet have fantastic leadership qualities. They just do their job, values are reflected in their actions & principles they adhere to but never overshadow anyone. They empower people regardless of their relationship status, and are genuinely happy to see others succeed.

Courage refers to the ability to withstand unpleasant situations, without being aggressive or inducing fear in other people’s lives. It is the moral strength to stand-up for our colleagues, friends, family and people in general during challenging times. Someone who has the inner strength and puts aside reputation, self esteem, benefit, processes, policies to uphold morals and demonstrate humanness. Which is why courage is referred to as ‘will’.

I have rarely come across leaders of this caliber in my 2 decades of corporate work life. Negativity, prejudice, praise, criticisms and targets seemed to have captured the imagination of our minds, giving absolutely no mental space to make sound decisions. It is either selective response, silence or display of power that often takes precedence.

Let us set a good example for the future, it doesn’t have to be only in the professional arena, or at home or social life, make it a part of life and I see this as one of our responsibilities, to be a courageous leader. Just like the mountaineer in the picture, who helped me climb the glacier regardless of my cultural background, education, and status.

With responsibility comes power (strength) and a catalyst to grow as an individual and an opportunity to explore our hidden skills and talent. So don’t shy away from taking more responsibility, it is one of the easiest ways to unveil our capability and thereby blossom. More later. .
